Sheepshank knot
Make a bend in the rope.
Make a second bend.
The bigger the bends the more the rope will
shorten.
Now make a half hitch.
Put the bend through
the half hitch.
Make another half hitch.
Put the bend through the half hitch on the
left.
Pull ends to tighten.

Use:
The sheepshank knot is used for shortening a
rope. This is the traditional method of tying
the knot. There is another faster way of tying
the sheepshank
knot.

I use the Firemans Chair as a secure "Sheepshank" for shortening ropes that may become slack in use , as I find a normal Sheepshank would just unravel.
